Final Filming Blog

Today is Monday, December 2nd and as of currently we have filmed all of our scenes for the music video. We even filmed backup scenes that were not planned in case a scene wasn’t to our liking. To have the filming done in an orderly time, we decided to only film on two days November 26th and November 28th. For the first filming session, we planned to go right after school to our local park and film. Our school was released at 2:45pm and we all arrived at the park by 3:00pm. At the park we filmed a total of 4 scenes, the first, second, tenth, and eleventh. The first scene went without any issues as all we needed was to find an empty bleacher. From there the two actors would socialize with one another as I filmed with the drone. We took a total of 3 takes so we could choose which was the best in the editing process. The second scene that we did involved the two actors laying on the field listening to music while I flew the drone so that the camera would skyrocket upwards. A problem we faced with this scene was the drone was buggy at times as there was high wind turbulence, but, we completed the scene nonetheless. The tenth, was simple as it was b-roll of all denominations of change falling on the ground in a parking lot. Finally, the eleventh scene we used the drone again to film two actors socializing in the trunk of the car. There were a lot of near by people and cars so we had to try and time our shots to keep most of them out of the background. Additionally, we had planned for the car to be moving during this scene but with the amount of people nearby we decided against this. Overall, the filming at this location went very smoothly with very little technical difficulties or changes needed to be made.

The next location we filmed at was a local hangout area by the beach. There were consignment stores, restaurants, ice cream parlors, etc. We had chosen this spot as it had satisfied many of the locations we wanted to use for the music video. We filmed a total of 8 scenes here, and were very enthusiastic about the results. For example the 3rd scene, we had planned to film a slushy machine, however, we decided to film an actor trying on hand bags at a local Walgreens. We asked the manager for approval to film this scene and two others and she approved us. The next scene we filmed involved an actor grabbing a lot of snacks at the Walgreens. In this scene, the actor would already be holding one bag of chips and would then grab more and more until they could not hold anymore. We made sure to not make a mess and put all the snacks back where we had found them. The next scene we filmed was the three of us in the car driving with the camera on the dash. During the scene we made sure to go far away from the location to a parking lot with no cars. We had our seatbelt on at all times and made sure to follow all traffic laws that applied. The sixth scene was netted and we had planned for us to film out of the car window driving past the beach. However, we realized we did not have a panning shot, which was required be the rubric, so we took a panning shot of the ocean from the shore. The seventh scene we filmed was us splashing each other in the water at the beach. We had to change this scene as well because we had planned to film us playing volleyball, but we forgot to bring the actual volleyball. The eighth scene included two actors building a sand castle on the beach which went without any problems. The next scene we filmed was an actor, myself specifically, trying on sunglasses at the Walgreens. Occasionally shoppers would pass, as we took multiple takes of this scene, so we made sure to respect their space and privacy. Finally, the last scene we filmed was two actors walking down the beach. We felt this scene rapped up the music video very well and took 4 takes so we could choose the which we wanted to use for the music video.
