It is officially the year 2020 and our second semester of AICE Media Studies has commenced. This semester well be even more challenging than the previous as we are beginning our final task. However, I first want to begin with by re-introducing myself. My name is Blake and I live in the United States, specifically the state of Florida. Additionally, I am still attending Fort Lauderdale High School as a sophomore. I was born on June 27th, 2003 making me 16 years old. I had previously lived in Parker, Colorado where I took interest in activities such as baseball, traveling, snowboarding, and so much more. Due to the cold whether however, my family decided to move back to Fort Lauderdale and we haven’t moved anywhere since. Looking forward, I am very excited to continue learning about the distribution and production of media, specifically film. Also, I am enthusiastic to see how the skills Ive learned on the previous two projects will impact the production quality of my Final Task.
As previously stated, I am enthusiastic about seeing how my production skills have developed throughout the year. This is especially so in areas such as the research, storyboarding, filming, and editing stages. To begin with I believe my research skills have greatly developed over the first semester of the year. This is because I have learned to identify the conventions of a certain genre and determine if it would be beneficial or harmful to follow these conventions when developing my product. For example, when producing the Nike commercial we decided to follow the typical conventions of an athletic commercial in order to create brand recognition with our audience. My storyboarding skills have also developed throughout the year. Ive learned to design a creative storyline and illustrate my thoughts and ideas on paper. Additionally, my filming has improved greatly. The previous projects have made more comfortable with incorporating different shots and angles into my product. For example, when filming my music video, one of my favorite shots was the pan of the coastline at the beach. Finally, I have found that my editing skills have greatly improved. Prior to this class I had never used Final Cut Pro, let alone a professional editing software. This was a learning curve, but eventually I became more and more familiar with the software.
Now that I have re-introduced myself and I have discussed the skills I have learned, I want to begin discussing the pitches I have created for my final task. A pitch is a Hollywood term used to describe an idea where a film is encapsulated in 25 words or less. For my Final Task, I was assigned to create 3 different pitches, and they go as follows.
Pitch #1: It’s the year 2020 and there is a kidnapper on the lose. Every night, he stalks for a victim, until, one day he finds an extraordinarily vulnerable victim. However, what happened was not what met the eye.
Pitch #2: In a dangerous, full of crime city, once man becomes a witness to a horrific crime that puts him in serious danger if he decides to testify.
Pitch #3: One family is having the time of their life on a boat, until a serious accident/attack takes place that will change their life forever.
